Suffolk Man Shoots, Kills Teenage Brother

A Long Island man is behind bars after police say he shot and killed his teenage brother.

It happened around 5:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 in Coram, Suffolk County Police said.

Sixth Precinct officers responded to a 911 report of a man with a handgun threatening family members outside of a home on Judith Drive, where Dimitri Robert, 27, who has no fixed address, was staying.

As officers were arriving on the scene, Robert entered a parked car outside of the house where his brother, Devontay Robert, was sitting in the front passenger seat. Dimitri Robert shot and killed Devontay Robert and was immediately taken into custody by officers.

Devontay Robert, 17, of Coram, was pronounced dead on the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Dimitri Robert was taken to Suffolk County Police Headquarters in Yaphank and was charged with second-degree murder.. He was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
